The Emerging Technique Of Farming

Hydroponics can be the game-changer for the future of gardening and farming. More people in India realize the benefits of growing hydroponically and so it is gaining a lot of momentum. While you can grow almost anything hydroponically, there are some vegetables or plants that thrive in hydroponic systems more than others. However, there are some factors you need to be careful about while setting the hydroponic system for your indoor-garden. Let’s have a look at them.

1. Temperature

The benefit of growing hydroponically is that the season sometimes becomes irrelevant. If you can provide heat during colder months and air conditioning during the summers, it is possible to grow all-year-round. Having said that, the optimal temperature range while growing hydroponically is between 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit. Don’t forget to account for changes in temperatures during the night and day. Ideally, you should be able to mimic the natural temperature patterns for the plant to grow healthy.

2. Humidity

The optimal humidity levels for a hydroponic system range between 40% and 80%. It is important to know that higher humidity levels can make it difficult for plants to grow naturally and also give way for mould and mildew to crop up. Investing in a good quality hygrometer would be a wise choice to keep the humidity levels in check.

3. Air Circulation

You could consider buying an exhaust fan (like the ones you use in your kitchen) to keep the air in the room circulated and fresh. This makes it easier for the plants to breathe and keep up with their growing cycle.

4. Lighting

While there is nothing wrong with growing your plants in normal house lights, but they just might not be enough to give you a healthy and nutritious plant size. It is recommended you invest in good HID (High Intensity Discharge) lights that can replicate the natural sunlight and help your plants grow.

Now that we know the conditions for growing with hydroponics let’s look at some of the best plants that you can grow hydroponically.

  • Spinach
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Cucumbers
  • Peppers
  • Strawberries
